The fishing log app for Florida anglers
Updated October 5, 2026
A good Florida fishing log records the conditions behind every catch (tide, barometric pressure, water temperature and moon) and knows FWC's size limits. Newbreeds is a free fishing log app for iPhone and Android, built on Florida's Gulf Coast, that does both automatically: tap once when you land a fish and it saves about 20 live conditions from NOAA and the National Weather Service, then checks your fish against FWC's limits.
What a Florida fishing log should do
- Record the tide automatically. Inshore Florida fishing runs on moving water. Your log should save the tide phase, the next high or low and how much water is moving, without you looking it up.
- Save the pressure trend, not just the number. Florida's winter fronts swing the barometer, and whether it was rising, falling or steady is what you'll want to compare later.
- Know the water temperature. Snook, seatrout and tarpon slow down, and can be cold-stunned, when a cold snap drops Florida's water temperature.
- Check FWC limits as you log. Slot limits for snook, redfish and seatrout differ by region, and a log that knows them saves a lookup on the boat.
- Keep your spots private. A log only helps if you put your real spots in it.
- Work with no signal. Plenty of flats and offshore spots have weak coverage.
How Newbreeds handles each
| Tide | Rising or falling, next high or low, tide range and spring/neap, from the nearest NOAA tide station (about 3,450 nationwide). |
|---|---|
| Pressure | Barometric pressure and its 3-hour trend (rising, falling or steady), saved with every catch. |
| Water | Sea-surface temperature and wave height from Open-Meteo Marine for saltwater catches. |
| Weather & moon | Air temperature, sky and wind from the US National Weather Service, plus moon phase and illumination. |
| FWC limits | Enter a length and it tells you keeper or release for your species, with a link to FWC to confirm. See the Florida Gulf limits. |
| Privacy | Catches and spots are visible only to you unless you share them with a crew. Photos are stripped of GPS data before upload. |
| No signal | Catches save to your phone first, so you can log offline. Live conditions need a connection at the moment you log. |
| On the map | FWC red tide samples and NWS marine alerts near your spot, and Florida's artificial reefs with Reef Hotspots (Premium). |
Logging and automatic conditions are free, forever. Premium adds insights (which conditions your bites cluster in, per species and spot), a 7-day bite forecast tuned to your own catches, private crews, cloud backup and CSV export. See pricing.
Other good options
- Fishbrain: the biggest fishing social network, with a community catch map. A better fit if you want to see what other anglers are catching.
- FishAngler: a free logbook with forecasts and a social feed.
- Anglers' Log: a detailed fishing journal, good if you want to export everything to a spreadsheet.
- Fish Rules: a regulations-only app, useful next to any logbook.
You can pair any logbook with separate tide and regulations apps. Newbreeds puts the log, the conditions and the size check in one place.

Questions
Is Newbreeds free?
Yes. Logging unlimited catches with automatic tide, weather, water temperature, pressure and moon is free, forever. Premium adds insights, a 7-day bite forecast, crews, cloud backup and CSV export.
Does Newbreeds know Florida size limits?
Yes. When you log a catch with a length, Newbreeds checks it against FWC's Gulf-zone limits (Tampa Bay region where FWC sets regional rules) and tells you keeper or release, with a link to FWC to confirm.
Does Newbreeds work outside Florida?
Yes. It's tuned for Florida's Gulf Coast but runs on national data, so it works anywhere US weather and tide data reach, including freshwater.
Is Newbreeds on iPhone and Android?
Yes, Newbreeds is on the App Store and Google Play.
