A fishing app that logs tide and weather automatically
Updated October 5, 2026
Newbreeds records the tide, weather, water temperature, barometric pressure and moon for every catch automatically. Tap once when you land a fish and it pulls about 20 live conditions from NOAA, the US National Weather Service and Open-Meteo for that exact time and place. Logging is free on iPhone and Android.
What gets recorded with each catch
| Condition | What's saved | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Spot | Exact GPS location, private to you | Your phone |
| Weather | Air temperature, sky, wind | US National Weather Service |
| Tide | Rising or falling, next high or low, range, spring/neap (skipped on freshwater) | NOAA CO-OPS |
| Water | Sea-surface temperature, wave height | Open-Meteo Marine |
| Pressure | Barometric pressure and its 3-hour trend | Live weather data |
| Moon | Phase and illumination | Computed on your phone |
| Limits | Keeper or release for your species and length | FWC limits (advisory) |
That's about 20 data points per catch with no typing. You pick the species, and add a length and photo if you want.
Why automatic matters
Few anglers remember the tide or the pressure trend for a fish they caught last month, and a log you have to fill in by hand stops getting filled in. Captured automatically, every catch is recorded the same way, which is what makes patterns visible. After about 20 catches, Newbreeds' Premium insights show which tide phase, pressure trend, moon and wind your bites cluster in, per species, and the 7-day forecast scores upcoming days against them.
Good to know
- Signal: catches save on your phone first, so you can log with no signal, but live conditions can only be fetched when you have a connection at the moment you log.
- Estimates: conditions come from the nearest stations and models, not a sensor on your boat. They're for finding patterns, not for navigation.
Other apps that do this
- Log.Fish builds catch entries from your photos and fills in conditions, according to its site.
- Fish & Tides tags catches with tide, weather and moon, according to its site.
- Anglers' Log is a detailed journal that can fetch tide data.
- ANGLR focuses on tracking trips with GPS.
Where Newbreeds differs is what it does with the data: free automatic capture, an FWC size check, and insights and a bite forecast built from your own catches.
